Spy Wednesday…

Standard

Holy Week is here, Passion Week. My schedule has quieted down abruptly. This is largely due to this week being spring break. So, we’re puttering around, enjoying our beautiful city, and every morning Mom gets to sit on the couch readying herself for Easter.

I have prepared lent box activities for every day between now and Easter. Here is the one for today, Spy Wednesday.

4/1 Spy Wednesday: Betrayal

Where to find it:
A Child’s First Bible: p.224
Jesus Storybook Bible: p.286 “The Servant King”
Bible: Mark 14:10-11, 2 Timothy 2:11-13

Reading:
Today is Holy Wednesday. It is also sometimes called Spy Wednesday. Today we read about how Judas made a sneaky deal to betray Jesus. Jesus’ enemies wanted to hurt him. Judas agreed to bring Jesus to them for thirty pieces of silver. Judas had seen Jesus’ miracles and heard his good words. Jesus was his friend. But Judas still chose his own plan. Just like Adam and Eve chose their own plan. Just like you and I choose our own plan. Judas would betray Jesus.

Lent box activity:
Have a family member place the token for Spy Wednesday in the sand. It can be a nickel, quarter, or a fake coin.

Beginning questions:
When have you chosen your own plan over Jesus’ plan?

More questions:
What have you seen that is true of Jesus?
Have you seen Jesus do any incredible things?

Family Question:
In what ways do we chose our own plans over God’s plan in our family?

Family Prayer:
“Faithful Father, we thank you for remaining faithful to us even when we are faithless to you. We confess that, even though we have experienced your power and heard your good words, we still choose our own plans. Let us not fear, but live boldly in your security and your safety. Help us in Jesus’ name, Amen.”
